Panormos
The seaside picturesque village of Panormos is located on the northern road axis of Crete, in the province of Mylopotamos, in the Prefecture of Rethymno, located 22 km away. from the town of Rethymno and 60 km. from the city of Heraklion.
It is a quiet tourist resort, which has developed strongly in recent years, has lost its traditional form. This has contributed to the wild beauty of the Cretan landscape, the picturesque village, the beautiful beaches that are located in the village and easy access.
It features a port for small boats, open to the east and sheltered from the north winds by a breakwater, and there is the possibility of supply of the vessels in the fuel. In the village of Panormo, you'll find everything from supermarkets, shops, cretan organic products, bars, cafes, restaurants and taverns right next to the sea. The fully organized beach offers all kinds of water sports and a diving centre.
In the centre of the village there is the only one-maybe - good old Carob mill of Crete, who has been declared as an industrial monument by the ministry of Culture and currently works as a place of art and culture, hosting artistic events, conferences and sporting activities throughout the course of the year.

Historical data
Panormo is located in a historic area, as well as here is the ancient Panormus. The existence of an ancient city is confirmed by the finding of the basilica of Saint Sophia, the 6th m.X. century 500m. southwest of the village. In fact, the basilica is considered as one of the largest early christian Greece, and as the largest in Crete. Also, the area is called and Castle Mylopotamos or Ρουμελί Castle, as it had been fortified by the Genoese, who occupied the 1206. The fortress, however, fell a few years later in the hands of the Venetians. Traces of the fort are preserved near the port.
In the modern history of the region, the area became a centre for the transportation of the product. The area produced large quantities of olive oil and carob. You can even today, to visit the restored carob mill, which is used as a cultural centre. After the occupation, when it was bombed, the small fishing village and harbour gradually turned into a tourist resort, as well as build the nearby national road, while in 1980 it was created and the current port in the region.
In the village are held each year, three festivals: the Ascension, St. John the Klidonas on 24 June, and of St. Nicholas on 6 December.
