The old christian basilica of Panormo was reconstructed around the middle of 5th century A.D. It was discovered after the research performed by the theologian Kontantinos Kalokiris in the year 1988 the enterprise was also assisted by the systematic excavation directed by the curator of antiquities N. Platonas as well as the personal effort of the local residents.

The archaeological site of Eleftherna is placed at about 30 km to the south-east of RethymnoEleftherna is one of the most important archaeological sites of Crete and provides much rich information on the development of the settlement along the years. In fact, the inhabitation of the settlement apparently dates from the Prehistoric times and extends until the Early Christian era.
The Monastery Attali
The Monastery Attali or Bai is built over the hill of Agia Ypakoi, west of Bali, with panoramic sea views to the sea. The monastery of Bali is a male monastery dedicated to St. John the Baptist. The complex is built in two levels.
The Cave of Melidoni
The Cave of Melidoni is located approximately 1,800 meters northwest of the homonym village of Mylopotamos, at an altitude of 220m and on the south side of Kouloukonas Mountain. Gerontospilios, as also called, is very important due to the archaeological findings, some of which are exhibited in the Archaeological Museum of Rethymnon. Moreover, the cave has played a tragic role in the history of Cretan revolution against the Turks, in 1824.
