The picturesque seaside village Panormo is located on the national highway of Crete and belongs to the Prefecture of Rethymno. It is distanced 22 km from the city of Rethymnon and 60 km from the city of Heraklion.
It is a tranquil resort, which has met a fast development in recent years, without however losing its traditional face. The wild beauty of the pure Cretan landscapes, the picturesque village, the beautiful beaches and easy access, have contributed to this development.
Panormo has a port for small boats open to the east and protected from northern winds. There are also boat fuelling facilities. Panormo village itself is picturesque while having all amenities, from supermarket and bars to restaurants and tavernas just by the seaside. The fully organized beach offers all kinds of watersports and a nearby diving center.
At the centre of the village stands probably the only large carob bean mill of Crete, which has been characterised as an industrial monument by the Greek Ministry of Culture. Today, the building is used for art exhibitions, cultural events, congresses and sports during the whole year.
